Cape Town harbour is the home of a number of cape fur seals.
These seals have found nooks and crannies around the harbour where they climb onto to bask in the sun and have a good sleep.
It was at one of these resting places that I came across the seal photographed above.
It was lying sleeping on the wooden balcony and it had two pieces of plastic tape, the type used to seal boxes, around its body.
The smaller piece was wrapped around its neck and the second was wedged around its body just in front of its flippers.
It was obviously firmly wedged as it had begun cutting into the seal.
Scenes like this I find rather distressing as it is once again people that litter that are causing distress to animals and people around them.
A happy seal sleeping on its back out of harms way
The mindless spreading of litter, especially into the sea is a totally brainless action.
What good does litter do to the sea.
It dirties the sea bottom and becomes a threat to all sea life.
When will we learn not to litter and protect our natural resources.
