A tour of the Cape Peninsula is a highlight of any visit to Cape Town.
Starting at around 8.00 am the tour proceeds along the Atlantic coastline through Sea Point, Bantry Bay, Clifton and Camps Bay.
After a short photo stop at Maidens Cove we continue along the coastline meandering along the slopes of the impressive Twelve Apostle mountain range.
Passing Llandudno we drive down into the village of Hout Bay where we visit the village's interesting fishing harbour.
Here we spend time exploring the shops and craft markets on the waterfront.
For those who are interested there is an optional boat trip available to visit the 20000 strong seal colony that has established itself on an offshore island.
Leaving Hout Bay we proceed to the most scenic part of the Cape Peninsula,“Chapman's Peak Drive” (if open) where where drive through a spectacular mountain pass with steep cliffs soaring above and below us. An alternative route through Constantia Nek is taken if we cannot drive through Chapman's Peak.
From Hout bay we travel southwards and can take one of two routes to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve. Some guides visit Scarborough and Misty Cliffs on the Atlantic coastline first while others take the False Bay route visiting the Boulders and penguins at Simonstown. Either way you will reach the Cape of Good Hope which is one of the highlights of the day.
Once we arrive and enter the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve there is a short drive to get to Cape Point. This drive will usually produce a number of animal sightings, ranging from Chacma baboons, Bontebok, eland, zebras, ostriches, tortoises and a large variety of land and sea birds as well as some spectacular flora, the fynbos.
The cliffs of Cape Point are our next port of call and here time is allowed for visitors to climb to the top of the cliffs and see some of the most spectacular scenery the Cape has to offer. A hearty lunch at the restaurant overlooking False Bay can also be enjoyed. After lunch at the Cape of Good Hope ( which is the most south westerly point of Africa) we stop for a quick photo just to prove that we actually visited the point.
The tour now begins its return journey through the nature reserve and then along a different route to the one taken approaching Cape Point. Between July and November there is a possibility of spotting the Southern Right whales which visit our coastline each year. They can be found anywhere along the Atlantic or False Bay coastlines so look out for them.
We return to the city over Ou Kaapseweg where we look down onto the spectacular view which is the Cape Flats of the Western Cape.
Our drive continues along the Blue Route to Kirstenbosch where we stop for a quick walk through the beautiful gardens( not included in some tours). From Kirstenbosch we drive past the University of Cape Town and the world famous Grootte Schuur hospital into the city where you are dropped off at your respective hotels after a spectacular day out.
